The Beggining
Born to parents Jean and Gerry Corr, Andrea, Sharon, Jim and Caroline originated in the town of dundalk on the east coast of Ireland. From an early age all the Corrs showed a great interest in music that had been passed on by their parents. All siblings were taught the Piano from and early age by their father Gerry, and after many arguments over whos tun it was to use it, each Corr decided to branch of and practice individual intruments. Jim the eldest began playing the Guitar aswell as keyboards. Sharon the eldest girl began lessons with a preist at the local church. The lessons which were origianlly meant for Caroline, soon became a passion for Sharon who mastered the instrument and won various accolades.

The long road to stardom
The Corrs had a very tough road to getting a recording contract. They struggled to do gigs in pubs whilst maintaining jobs and personel lives. It was not until an audition for the Alan Parker film The Committments, that The Corrs recieved there first break. Here they met their manager John Hughes who to this day they call "the fifth Corr". All members of the band recieved minor parts in the movie, Andrea with a speaking role. But the best thing to come out of the auditions was the meeting with their manager, and the offer to play at the 1994 soccer world cup opening ceremony, which led to their meeting with music producer David Foster, and the eventual signing of the band to Lava/143/Atlantic Records. They began recording for their debut album away from Ireland, in Los Angeles. It was released with smash hit success in Australasia, Switzerland, Germany and Spain just to name a few. Songs such as Forgiven, Not Forgotten, Runaway and The Right Time were very successful. But most importantly for The Corrs it was the biggest success in Ireland. However they failed to break the British and American charts, something which would drive them in their next two albums.

Talk On Corners
The release of their second album Talk On Corners raised a few eyebrows from fans. The Corrs had lost a little bit of the traditional folk sound that they had produced on Forgiven, Not Forgotten, but had succeeded to make a blend of traditional Irish folk with pop/rock. Talk On Corners conquered the U.K and became the biggest selling album in Britain in 1998, with the release of singles such as So Young, Only When I Sleep and I Never Loved You Anyway. The same Talk On Corners and Forgiven, Not Forgotten were in the top two postions in the charts respectively, a feat only The Beatles had acheived before them. The U.K went into a state of Corrs mania and they were on every talk show every music show in the land. Whilst loving the credit they were receiving from the U.K The Corrs did not forget their loyal fan base at home in Ireland. Putting on a show that is known as their best ever at Lansdowne Road in 1999. Ironically their manager John Hughes had said when he first met them that in 10 years time they would play to a sellout crowd at Lansdowne Road, they achieved this one year early. Among the joy of this great triumph The Corrs were about to go through the most terrible experience in their lives, the tragic loss of their mother Jean.

MTV UnPlugged and In Blue
In October of 1999 The Corrs recorded an MTV UnPlugged album, this included three new songs. Radio,At Your Side and Old Town a cover of Phil Lynotts song. This again smashed through the Britsh and Irish charts. In November of the same year The Corrs lost their mother Jean Corr to a rare lung Disease, they flew to be next to her when she died at Newcastle hospital. Jim, Sharon, Caroline and Andrea and father Gerry were al devestated by the loss, but as Jean had told them to do, they kepton with the music. This became the drive behind their third studio album In Blue which was dedicated to the memory of Jean. In Blue, did the same as the last two albums, if not better. The Corrs finally received recognition from America, receiving two grammy nominations for the song Breathless, and Sharons Violin instrumental Rebel Heart. Also on In Blue The Corrs dedicated a song No More Cry to there father to help him get over the greif he felt after the loss of his wife.

In 2002 They were named the highest selling act in Europe, topling u2 and Madonna off the top spot. This year holds great promise for The Corrs with there fourth studio album due out in november 2002.
